A victory on the IRONMAN 70.3 circuit in his first season as a professional, Danish cycling prodigy Magnus Elbaek Ditlev is one of the up-and-coming stars of long-distance triathlon.
Magnus’ interest in the sport was first piqued in his youth when he and his family regularly watched IRONMAN Copenhagen on Geels Bakke, and he became fascinated with the sport.
He forged his own path to professional level, his introduction into the sport was signing himself up for a half-distance race. The rest is very much now history.
Magnus joined forces with former Danish star Jens Petersen-Bach, who described his protégé's cycling talents as ‘something he has never seen anything like’.
Magnus began to compete in Age Group competition, producing some stunning displays. After winning the IRONMAN 70.3 European Championship in Elsinore in 2018 for the 18-24 age group, the great Dane planned his professional debut in 2019.
Unfortunately, a serious accident prior to his pro race debut at CHALLENGEMALLORCA cost Magnus most of that 2019 campaign. His rich cycling talent did shine through though in a fine sixth place at CHALLENGEDAYTONA in December.
A debut fourth at IRONMAN 70.3 Dubai in February 2020 - before the COVID-19 pandemic curtailed the majority of events that year - was an encouraging start on the professional circuit.
He followed that up with victory at IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia, Poland in September 2020. His sensational cycling prowess saw him take over five minutes out of the entire field. He again produced the fastest bike split ahead of a star-studded field en route to 14th at the PTO 2020 Championship in December.
His ultimate goal is to become both the half and full-distance World Champion at professional level.
With his unrivalled pedigree on the bike, and time very much on his side, Magnus will be hoping to sharpen the other arrows in his bow to become one of the sport’s true elite talents over the coming years.
