Andy Potts
Visit ProfileAndy Potts
Having pretty much done it all as a triathlon veteran, Andy Potts is already very much looking to the future, and his legacy.
American star Potts has developed the AP Racing team to continue giving back to the sport which has given so much to him. The goal of setting it up was both simple and strong.
“To leave the sport better than we started with it. The idea is simple, use the 25+ years of coaching and racing experience the team has to help each athlete exceed their goals.”
Rewind to 2004, when Andy’s first career highlight came as he represented the United States at the Athens Olympic Games less than a year-and-a-half after taking up the sport. Previous to that he’d been a successful swimmer.
Since that it’s been an incredible ride (and run, and swim) for Andy as he’s built up quite the CV for a professional triathlete.
Perhaps his greatest achievement remains winning the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship at Clearwater, Florida in 2007, but that is still just one on a long, long list of terrific performances.
He has racked up almost 30 victories in IRONMAN 70.3 events, as well as a string of others over the full distance. Andy also claimed two superb fourth-placed finishes at the World Championship in Kona in 2014 and 2015. He now has seven top-10 placings there.
Potts was still performing extremely well at the highest level in 2019, winning IRONMAN Brazil as well as producing a string of top-10 finishes to go along with a seventh at Challenge Roth (on debut there) and a 14th back at Kona.
Throw in a Pan Am Games victory in 2007 and the fact he has been USAT Triathlete of the Year four times, and it is easy to see why Andy is a legend in his own lifetime.
* New PTO World Ranking System implemented.
