Pâmella Oliveira
Brazilian triathlete Pâmella Oliveira is a two-time National Champion, a former Pan American Games bronze medallist and has represented her country twice at the Olympic Games, in London in 2012 and then at home in Rio four years later.
‘Pami’ has started well over 100 races in her career to date and has competed at various distances from Sprint all the way up to full IRONMAN, earning victories over pretty much every distance.
Her early professional victories came at the Vila Vehla Sprint Triathlon events. She won the 2009 South American Championship, 2010 U23 Pan American Championship and the 2011 and 2013 Pan American Championships on that course. Coincidentally Vila Vehla was her birthplace.
Her first National title came in 2015 over the Olympic distance, before she added a second title over middle distance in 2019.
In recent years ‘Pamelão’ has become something of a star at the middle distance, winning a string of IRONMAN 70.3 events, three of which came in Rio de Janeiro (2017, 2018, 2019), two in Florianopolis (2018, 2019) and one in Buenos Aires (2018).
Oliveira also performed superbly on the biggest stage of all as she took fourth at the 70.3 World Championship in 2018 in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
She debuted at the full IRONMAN distance during the 2019 Brazil event, finishing second, as she continues to build her legacy over the longer-format races.
Pamella’s favourite discipline is the bike as she finds it incredible to be able to go so far and see such beautiful places during the cycling stage of a race. Her least favourite, surprisingly, is the swim considering she started her sporting career as a swimmer.
Her favourite cheat meal is Açaí, a round, black-purple drupe, similar in appearance to a grape, but smaller. Her favourite band is One Republic and her ideal race/training hype song is ‘Believer’ by Imagine Dragons.
