Lisa Roberts
Lisa Roberts has put together a highly successful career as a professional triathlete built on the foundations she follows in life. Strength, perseverance and a ‘never give up’ attitude.
That perseverance and inner strength is partly down to a watershed moment in her life which came at the age of just 11, when her father was involved in a swimming accident which left him quadriplegic.
That devastating experience, and watching the way her father reacted so positively to such a sudden life change, helped form the iron will she displays today. A will she has used to drive her to considerable triathlon success.
Lisa has stood on countless podiums since turning professional in 2009, and her impressive roll of honour includes a string of full-distance victories, including a pair of successes during a golden 2017 campaign at IRONMAN Cozumel and at Louisville. Both came in course-record times.
Lisa has also enjoyed considerable success on the Challenge Family circuit, and her 2019 season included victories in Madrid and Taiwan.
In what many triathletes see as the greatest test of all, the annual World Championship in Kona, the American has also performed creditably on more than one occasion, finishing 16th in 2016 and 20th in 2014.
In terms of favourite events, Lisa loves the mountainous double of the Alpe d’Huez Triathlon and Embrunman (clearly she is no fan of flat courses). Meanwhile her favourite training location just happens to be her hometown of Tucson, Arizona.
Away from the professional triathlon circuit, Lisa is well known for her desire to give back to the community. She is a regular fixture at local events whether she is competing or volunteering and in her down time she enjoys travelling, home improvements and baking.
Roberts sees herself as “open, approachable, kind, hard-working, tireless, fair and a fierce friend” and is now building up her own training squad, Spiral Multisport, with the goal to promote an active lifestyle to people of all ages.
