Elisabetta Curridori
Elisabetta Curridori has lit up the triathlon circuit since making her professional debut in 2017, winning her first pro race at Challenge Riccione in 2019 and following it up with another victory in Lisbon just two weeks later. The 2019 campaign had looked set to be her breakthrough year but the latter half of the season was something of a struggle as a back injury slowed her progress. Elisabetta is a former Italian Champion in duathlon and triathlon, winning both races in 2018. ‘Betta’ first took up the sport back in 2004 after watching the first edition of XTERRA Italy which was held in her hometown of Villacidro, Sardinia. Her father was also a big influence on her career - he had a huge passion for cycling. Her other heroes include cyclist Marco Pantani, all-round athlete Mathieau Van Der Poel and triathletes Chrissie Wellington and Bella Bayliss - the latter is also her coach. The most embarrassing moment of her career so far was when she overheard other pro triathletes ask if they could remove Elisabetta’s bike from the professional transition area during a race - they thought it belonged to someone in the younger age groups and was in the wrong area! Her most painful race experience meanwhile was during a middle-distance triathlon in Chia, Sardinia. She was running in second position until she ran out of energy, collapsing at the finish line after 9km of struggle. The best advice ‘Betta’ has been given “training is not about breaking records, it’s about being consistent” and “be patient, be smart, eat well and drink lots”. Elisabetta is married to fellow triathlete Jim Thijs, together they now have a dog aptly named Kona, and her favourite race in her career to date is Challenge Salou.Bonus +5%
