Biography

Irish born Doctor and newly turned elite athlete, originally from Ireland but splitting her time between Waterford & Spain. An advocate for balancing education with sport, the outdoors and using movement as medicine.

Having been involved in sport from a young age and growing up in her dad’s
martial arts gym, Shannon found triathlon during her medical school years with the aim to make more friends whilst gaining new skills in sport.

She started competing in 2021 and quickly began winning at various National
series & National championship races. Shannon then gained her first call up for Ireland to race elite short course in 2022 whilst working full time as a Junior Doctor.

Since picking the sport up, she has successfully completed a handful of elite races on the world triathlon short course scene for Ireland. With recent achievements including a win at the African Aquathlon Continental Championships in May 2023 which led to a qualifying spot for Ireland in the World Beach Games. Further International selection includes Ireland’s Senior Elite Mixed Team Relay at the European Championships in Balikesir, Turkey.

With future ambitions of breaking into the longer distance races at a higher level, Shannon hopes to place Ireland on the PTO map. A long term goal would be - to be the best Irish Long Distance Athlete in History.

"My unique quality is resilience. In 2019 I was in a hospital bed being told I'd never be able to do sport again with a major cardiac condition. By 2024, I have raced for my country around the world whilst juggling my career as a Doctor. My motto, from this real life experience, is simply; Failure is an illusion, Never Give up"
