Corinne Abraham first turned professional in 2011, and she has been a model of consistency and excellence since.
The decision to make triathlon a full-time endeavour came after she had finished 10th in Age-Group 30-34 at the 2010 IRONMAN World Championship in Kona. Her maiden victory over the full distance would later arrive at IRONMAN Melbourne in 2013.
Corinne really thrives in the competitive environment that is top-level professional triathlon. That is something she puts down partly to her formative years, when she took part in a number of sports.
She trained with the Welsh Judo squad throughout her teens and believes that success in competitive Judo established the discipline and focus which serves her so well now in triathlon.
Corinne’s excellent World Championship performances at Kona in recent years suggest that she is still very much on an upward trajectory despite being into her 40s.
2019 saw her produce her best result yet on the Big Island with a superb seventh-place finish. She had previously come home 11th in 2014, 16th in 2017 and ninth in 2018.
Proof of Corinne’s wellbeing came in her only previous race in 2019 as she claimed victory at IRONMAN Tallinn in Estona. More victories over the full distance had earlier come her way in 2018 as she finished first both in France and Kalmar.
Not surprisingly after five visits there, the annual pilgrimage to Kona is something Corinne especially enjoys as the whole experience fits in with a lot of her loves in life.
“I do like it here,” she says. “Generally speaking I like the heat and warm places, I love the ocean and I love seafood. We’ve made friends here on the island and it is always nice to return.”
