Åsa Lundström
Visit ProfileInactive since 07 Jul 2019Åsa Lundström
Asa Lundström enjoyed notable IRONMAN success via signature victories in Kalmar and Lake Tahoe in 2012 and 2013 respectively, and she has also finished second again in Kalmar as well as Austria and Copenhagen. When runner-up at Kalmar in 2018, she also produced her best time yet of 8:54:35.
As well as those standout performances, she also claimed five Swedish championships between 2011 and 2018. Her first two gold medals came over the long distance in 2011 and 2012, before she converted to half distance for further victories in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
Asa’s favourite discipline is the run, where she feels she has something of a mental edge over the opposition in the latter stages of events. Her favourite events are IRONMAN Sweden and Klagenfurt.
Lundström discovered her love of the sport through her study friend in medical school, who was a triathlete coming back from injury. They began training together, and over time she ended up falling in love with the sport, and the study friend. To give the story the loveliest of endings, they are now happily married with a child.
A trained fitness instructor since 2005, Åsa trains alongside Maja Stage Nielsen and Lisa Norden. As well as being a triathlon champion, she has yet another great skill as she is a qualified doctor, having graduated from the University of Southern Denmark.
Åsa says her role models growing up were here mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who died at the age of 102. When she became an adult herself, they become even bigger heroes in her life.
She rates the best advice she has ever received as: “Stay in the moment. You choose to race because you want to, so enjoy it.”
Outside of triathlon, Åsa enjoys a love of Swedish music and cross-country skiing, and is a self-proclaimed expert at parallel parking!
